Another advantage of Sterilite (The Great Flood of '05)

duffy Jun 11, 2005 04:57 PM

Long story short: My snake room flooded today. A major washing machine malfunction on the floor above caused a huge amount of water to come through into the basement.

At first it looked like ALL my tanks were flooded, or at least full of wet aspen. On second glance, I realized that most of my Sterilite boxes were OK. Since I stack them, I quit putting holes in the top and only ventilate the sides. My screen-top aquaria were in bad shape, of course. An empty one had about an inch of water in it. One of my garters was living in a new wetland. Half my 55 has wet aspen.

11 of my 13 snakes had just eaten earlier today. I'm hoping nobody pukes from stress or detergent smell. Oh well...I won't have to worry about bad sheds: Plenty of humidity down there right now, folks. Duffy

The whole room has it. Nobody's puked yet. There's a chance that some of them could have ingested some water with detergent in it...My snakes are in pretty good shape, though, so I really think most if not all of them will be OK. My biggest ratsnakes, all in 50 gallon Sterilite, came through bone dry even though there were gallons of water pooled in the lids. Whew? :D
