Harder to acquire species

RB-breeder Jun 11, 2005 04:59 PM

I was wondering if anyone has any info on acquiring some of the other Epicrates.

I have been breeding Epicrates cenchria cenchria for a few years now, and I have 1 male and 3 females in my breeding stock.

I plan on branching out to some of the other epicrates but it seems that I am having problems find them maybe someone here can offer me some direction

some of the species im looking for

Epicrates cenchria subflavus
Epicrates cenchria assisi
Epicrates cenchria alvarezi

If anyone has any info please help

Thanks,
James

James,
....Epicrates subflavus, the Jamaican Boa is a different species than the Rainbow Boas. They are CITES appendix 1 animals and thus are hard to purchase. A US Fish and Wildlife permit is required to sell Jamaican Boas across state borders. They are sometimes offered for sale on websites and in the classifieds here on KS.com. Most of the people selling them advertise them as in state sales only. I have seen quite a few subflavus and I think they are pretty interesting but IMO are not worth the prices above a grand that people are asking for them.
....The Argentinian Rainbow Boa. Epicrates cenchria alvarezi is often offered for sale at shows and here on ks.com in the classifieds. Prices are reasonable for them.
....The Campina Grande Rainbow Boa, Epicrates cenchria assissi is very rare in collections. AFAIK this subspecies has never reproduced in the USA. There are two of us here on this forum who have them and have had breedings this year. We are waiting and hoping for babies late this summer. This subspecies is pretty small with our young adults less than 45 inches long. They are very inquisitive and seem to have more personality than other Rainbow Boas.
Jeff

If you don't mind me asking, what is the normal going rate for assisi?

I have recently found subflavus for 750, but I didn't like such a high price tag, for that much I would invest in a nice corallas cannis and get my stock started on those.

If you know where can I find some assisi? I would like to branch out and start breeding them (or at least try)Also if you know anyone who has any, maybe I could work out some kind of trade with snakes and money or what not, I have 2 c. cenchria im trying to get rid of, both have AMAZING color, a female that is 42 inches, and a male that is about 60 inches, both have a FOUL, FOUL temper, hence the reason im getting rid of them, they are the only two I have that are mean, Both would make GREAT breeders, but poor pets.

Thanks,
James

James, I don't know what the CGRBs sell for now Jeff traded for a pair a few months ago and I traded one of my pairs a back in March. I have a female that looks to be gravid and jeff's were breeding earlier this spring so hopefully we'll have babies later this year. There are maybe 7 to 10 adult pairs in the country so you don't see them available very often.

ETBs I could help you with lol have a number of them and Jeff has a pair he's trying to sell. But for Campina's unless you get lucky your best bet is to see what these females produce. They are real nice little snakes and different than the other RBs. Randy

Subflavus for 750?? Even in dollars that is 4 times what I am selling '04 babies for, and I can't find buyers here in the UK!!

Jeff Clark Jun 12, 2005 07:59 PM

Herpquest,
...Do you have PICs of your subflavus? If so, please either post them here or email them to me. I may be able to help you find a buyer there in the UK. With the not so new but reasonably new EU policies are you able to sell them in other EU countries without any paperwork?
