What I find is that they do well in damp substrate like bed-a-beast or potting soil. Frogs like moisture because a frog with intact skin looses water almost as quickly as skinless frogs. Therefore they like high humidity, which should be adequate if your subtrate is damp, and they must have a large water saucer, which they can get in a out easily, for them to soak and deficate in. The water level should be at nostril hieght. Ventalation is also very important. High humidity and stagnant air is a breeding ground for germs, which can cause red legs, and fungus infection. Make sure you do a very good spot cleaning and change the substrate when ever you think it needs to be changed. And because they looses water very quickly the temp. should be to high...78-82 degree is adequate. Higher temp. can desacate a frog easily. You can use heat lamp for heating or undertank heating pad. You can add other decoration if you like but it will not be appreciated by your pac-man and I heard they will dig up plants. Really they like to burry themselves in the subtrate with only they eyes poking out. I think the your silver dollar size could be fed every three days variety of dusted inverts with fish thrown in like every month or so for variety. When it's full grown they only need to be fed once a week and you can throw in an appropriate size mouse or fish once a month or every other month for varieties.

Make sure the potting soil is doesn't contain any fertilizers with they will indicate on the package. Have fun and enjoy yourselves!!!

I've never had a pacman before, but have read 100's of times, even just this week (maybe you should check the recent posts before asking such a question) that this frog burrows to get away from the heat so you wouldn't want to use a heater that heats from below. Can't belive Knot (with the cool dog and ugly ex-wife) is saying this.

I've tried both the heat lamp and the heating pad and the frog didn't give damn about either one. In fact, she burried herself right on top of where the heating pad was attached to, and stay there for days.

Are you sure it is still alive?

Knot Jul 14, 2003 04:52 PM

Yeah, he's still alive...she stayed there for awhile and move on to the next location after I put in the heat lamp above her. That could just be a conincident though. But heat lamps do tend to drys things up if you're not careful.

Here's a good feeding regiment for a horned frog, this is what I have used for years, so it is time tested. Monday feed Wednesday feed Friday feed, i feed my babies 1-2 goldfish per feeding, goldfish should not be dusted by the way. I am getting hard data on horned frog feeding now. Once they get over an 1 1/2" long then I feed them on the same schedule, just 2-3 goldfish per feeding. Over 2" I feed on Mondays and Thrusdays 3-4 goldfish, 3" up 5-6 goldfish once a week on fridays. I am collecting hard data now on the feeding of just goldfish to a horned frog. I'll let everyone know my findings.
