are silk worms good leo food?

rugbyman2000 Jun 11, 2005 11:48 PM

Hey guys,

Someone just gave me a bunch of silk worms. I was told (by the person who gave them to me) that they are great reptile food. i fed a few to the leopard geckos and they're eating em right up. i was just wondering if anyone else had tried feeding silk worms to reptiles and how it went.

thanks

Some people even use them as a staple..... I use them to help vary my leos diets..... I do not believe in a staple diet of one particular type of feeder insect.....

My leos get silkworms, waxworms, superworms, mealworms, crickets and roaches.....

Good advice Gregg,
I agree with you on varying any reptile's diet when it comes to bugs. I know they don't eat only one bug in the wild so in captivity I make sure to give them a mix of different bugs too.

We were very fortunate though that the nice folks at silkwormfarm.com heard great things about our nonprofit reptile rescue and sent us a BUNCH of silk worms. One day we just got an email saying they heard great things about the rescue and the next day there were a few thousand silk worms on our doorstep! And it may be perfect timing b/c we are expecting a few beardies to come into the rescue soon.
