Feeling happy ... for being dumb.

Jason Nelson Jun 12, 2005 02:36 AM

This is kind of embarrassing being a breeder and all .
Back in late April , I was cleaning some cages. I picked up my female Dwarf that day and though well she doesn't look gravid . Well 2 days after that I was watering snakes. I got to the Dwarf Bull cages . I open the cage and she is curled around 7 eggs . Just by dumb luck I got the eggs in good shape .

Laying eggs is pretty tough on Pituophis and takes alot weight off them .I feed this girl on small rats to get her weight back on .

Last week I was watering snakes again and I got to the female Dwarf Bulls cage. And again she is curled around 6 eggs . 5 out of the 6 are good .
I have rarely heard of Pits double clutching but what a trip , and both times I had know idea . What a dope I am .
The thing that trips me out the most is not double clutching but I did not reintroduce the male , she must of retained the sperm . I have never had this happen too me until this year , I also had a Cal King do the same thing but I was prepaired for the Kingsnake eggs both times . I tell you what Rats kick butt.

It never hurts to be lucky as well as skilled Jason! You might not have known it was coming, but it shows how well you care for your animals. Obviously she was ready and capable of a double clutch. Again luck accompanied by a great deal of skill and caring. Take care!

I agree with Jeremy, you take great care of those snakes and it shows. A little luck and a lot of skill provided you with two great clutches. Good luck with them and congrats Jason!

Have a good one,

Gregg
