Does this look too "busy"?

bleedthefreak Jun 12, 2005 02:04 PM

I added some stuff in Chiquita's tank so she can climb more. When she's not eating, basking or sleeping, she climbs all over the place! The temps are all still correct and she has plenty of floor space. I really like the way it looks...do you think it's too much?
Have a good one!

I think it looks fine, in fact it looks really nice Makes my dragons cage look dull!

The only issue i could think of is that crckets have plenty of hiding spaces to escape your dragon when she is hunting. You might have a hard time removing the uneaten crickets and she may have a hard time hunting. If this is an issue though you can always feed in a seperate containor.

Other than that, looks awesome!

Hi, i think your viv looks great dont worry about it. Bearded dragons are very curious and anything that keeps it active is good. They do love to climb and so i think it will love its new look viv.

I think it looks really neat! I like your idea using the bend-a-vine. I am working on Darwin's new big tank so am gathering ideas. AlteredMind has some points about the crix, but if things are easily removed maybe you can take some out during feeding time - that is what I currently do with Darwin. What is the big gray "root" on the right? Did you buy it or find it?

I think Chiquita (great name!) will enjoy her new space

the only thing I would worry about is does she have room to "grow" in it? You figure she will get bigger, and you want her to have as much mobility as possible when she does. You can probably leave it that way for some time, then adjust it as she grows into the tank. That way she'll have more room to move around in when she gets bigger.

Other than that, great setup! The stump is especially cool.

I got the stump from Petsmart. I try not to shop there too often, but Chiquita's cricket shipment was running late, so I stopped in, saw it and had to have it!
I will be rearranging things as she grows...I just wanted something nice for her to enjoy in the mean time. Once she gets big enough for the 65 gal I have for her, I'll probably go for a more deserty theme. I like themes, lol. Although, this one is mismatched. If you notice, there's a desert background instead of a jungle one.
She eats silkworms and crickets. I have her eating the crickets mostly from a cup. I do let a few out for her to "hunt". If she misses any, I do go through the tank before bedtime and pick them out. I'm always paranoid that I'll miss one...so I leave greens scattered on the bottom just in case. Haven't missed one yet that I know of. She refuses to eat in a separate tank, lol.
I figure this setup will last for a little while. She's a slow grower. She eats like a champ, and has had 2 clean fecals in the past 6 weeks...so I'm not really worried. I figure she'll have one of those dragon growth spurts when I'm least expecting it Anyway, thanks again for all the feedback!

Can your dragon get within 6-8 inches of the UVB bulb? If she isn't getting enough UVB then that could be why she is slow growing. Getting her closer to the bulb is important as UVB doesn't travel very far.

bleedthefreak Jun 14, 2005 11:54 AM

I know that I use a mystic uvb bulb, one of the best uvb bulbs on the market. It penetrates from 20 in. away, although she can get pretty close to it the way I have the vine set up. She also gets regular access to the outdoors since it's summer. Both of my dragons get plenty of uvb, so that was not my concern...I'm not new to dragons. I figure Chiquita will just be a late bloomer. It happens sometimes. She is definitely growing, just a little slow. Thank you though for your concern! It's nice to see we're all looking out for each other.
