Yay! Vivid Reptiles is going to have Texas Bairds this season!

AlteredMind99 Jun 12, 2005 02:38 PM

Im so excited! Vivid reptiles said this years stock has some really great metalic sheen! I cannot wait!

But since i have to wait...I have a couple questions. I have owned corns for several years and from what people tell me Rat snake care is very similiar, if not identical. The differences people have pointed out to me is that rats tend to be a bit jumpier. Still, i would like to read up on some care sheets specifically for Rat snakes all the same, just to make sure i have every thing in order. Can you guys recomend some good ones online?

Also, what is the adult size of the Bairds rat usually?

Thanks so much

I dont keep my bairdi any different then I do my corns. The only problems Ive read about are shipping shock.I had one baird regurge from it.For the first couple of weeks let your baird settle in.Wait a week before you try and feed.
I have a male that is over 5 feet and still slowly growing.
All mine are very active compared to corns. Bairdi are very aggressive feeders.
Ive only been bit once and consider it a fluke. There actually my favorite snakes to handle.Strong, curious, and active is the best way to describe them...Paul

Great! I really can't wait to get one. I hope the colors come in as gorgeous as some of the ones i have seen on this forum!

Which gets larger, males or females? Or is there no difference?

Thanks again

My adult pair is from Vivid as well. My female is larger than my male, but only because she spent the first year of her life feeding a little better. The male has almost caught up. They are now 4 yrs old. They are still growing, too.
The male's colors are still changing a little with each shed.
