we just took photos & let the snake go, it was from west of sanderson, the last pic here you can see it going in its hole.
more people need to practice catch & release its a trip to watch it crawl off. plus it saves you money on a hunting license when you dont collect anything. this is the first of many snakes to be photo'ed & let go in the field.

WOW! You the man, Jeff! I imagine somebody sometime let an ugly dark phase go but you released a very attractive snake. In 27 years of alterna collecting/keeping/breeding etc I've never known anyone else to do that. Some guys have released a few that wouldn't eat or do well for them once they got them home but your the one and only I've ever heard of that released a fresh caught snake. I salute you. Heck I can't even find them anymore and you catch and release em. Thats got to be great karma.

thanks brad, hopefully more people will catch & release. the fun is just being there, i dont need a trophy for a memory. damon actually let a 9 mile snake go & re found it several more times that year thats where i got the idea from. what a trip.
i never found another pic on the trip but ill be back in july so if a find a pic or lep ill save them for you.

Just picking one up requires a hunting license, even if you don't keep it. For the anal-retentive, the regs say you need a license to "hunt" them, and "hunt's" definition in the regs includes "to pursue," so REALLY anal-retentive LE can bust you for mere photography (it's been tried before, don't know how successfully though).

Of course, to quote the Ancient Chinese Proverb, if a herper catches and releases in the woods, and no one's around to see him, does he need a hunting license?

well since all the tp&w agents in west texas have heard of the infamous tanks, they all know where to find me im sure. im not to concerned about anal retentive le, im pretty much anal retentive myself, i think i can pretty much out piss most in a pissing contest. i havent picked much up in the last few years so i have little to worry about with picking up a snake, posing it to photo & watching it crawl off.

That's way cool Tank and that's a beautiful Grayband too. I have done that with many zonata and it's fun watching them crawl back into the wild.
