Sunglow Genetics?

Lucien Jun 12, 2005 06:35 PM

As I've been out of contact on the leo board lately, I've run across this morph now and am not really sure on the genetics of it. Is it a patternless/albino cross or what? I saw someone advertising sunglow babies that look just like my poss. tang albino babies.. (Haven't seen any other tang albinos this young so I can't be certain they'll turn out tangs. Their mother is a tang albino.. their father a normal albino)If anyone has pics of tang albinos less than a month old they could post I'd be very grateful and the genetics on the sunglows. Thanks alot..

Sunglow usually refers to a Rainwater Albino Tang.

Hybino is normally used for a Bell Albino Tang.

Tang Tremper, or Tremper Hybino is what I usually see the Tremper Albino Tangs refered to as.

A sunglow is just a fancy name for a super hypo tang albino.... It can be any of the 3 strains of albino.....

The name sunglow was just coined by certain breeders...... Sunglows and hybinos are the same......

Here is a pic of a true tremper strain sunglow/hybino 100% Urban Gecko

Here is a close up eye shot...

Hi Lucien, welcome back. I haven't seen you post here in like over a year?

Anyway, a sunglow is a hypo x albino cross. I could be wrong, but I believe Urban Gecko was the first to really start using the term for leopard geckos, but it's been used for some time in the corn snake trade.

Hybino is another term used to describe the same thing (hypo albino), except it's more unique to the leopard gecko hobby.

Patternless albinos look like patternless but with brighter colors and a pinkish white tail instead of purple.

I think aptors may be what are throwing you off because they're boasted to be a new patternless trait, which is kind of misleading.

Yeah.. I haven't been here in about that long... I've had 2 bad seasons running and can't figure out why. All my eggs keep going bad. I've lost 6 eggs near hatching just this year. I've got 2 hatchlings this year and one more in the incubator out of 7 breeding female's clutches this year. I'm not sure whats going wrong. I know its not humidity... I know its not bad eggs.. each egg was fertile... but all of them have died several weeks into incubation. There's no inbreeding that I know of.. I keep coming back to possible heat fluctuation with my Hovabator... its the only thing I can think of.. I just can't afford to get a better incubator right now...My temps in my house aren't stable.. so its difficult to get the incubator stable..It varies by about 5 or 6 degrees. My digital thermometer broke.. not sure what happened to it but it wasn't reading right.... I'm not having good luck. Next year will start my boa breeding project. My female hit 5 ft this year at 2 years old. She'll be ready to go by September of 2006. Hopefully I have better luck with that.. but if anyone has any suggestion on the geckos I'd be very grateful. Rundown of their setups

Enclosure

Each 30 gallon sterlite runs:

1.2
Heat is 76 cool side, 88 warm side with a belly heat area of 91
Moist hides are spaghum moss
Substrate is papertowel/newspaper
Vitamins are 1 feeding Calcium w/o D3
1 feeding multivitamin with D3
1 feeding without supplement
Repeat
They get mealworms, superworms, no crickets, silkworms as a treat and waxworms as treats. Pinkies once a week for all the females.. Males twice a month.

Eggs are nice, white, firm and properly calcified when laid.. but they all mold after 2 weeks or so. Humidity is 92%, heat is between 78 and 82 degrees usually though thats the only variable that I can think of that would be problematic is that 4 or 5 degree variance. They don't dent, or sweat they just go moldy and soft/slimy looking. Anyway, not sure if its me or my incubator but any suggestions would be helpful.
