Dog Face Water Snake?

Phoebe_n Jul 13, 2003 09:08 PM

Hello -

A local pet store is selling baby water snakes they are labeling as "dog faced water snakes" - I cannot seem to find any information on the species or care (minimum required set up and the like) - does anyone know any good caresheet links out there or information about these good-looking snakes?

Thanks!

-Phoebe

Yikes. These are almost certainly imported snakes from Asia, probably full of parasites and soon to be dead
If you have a lot of experience with snakes, especially imports, these might be interesting to play around with. But I wouldn't spend a cent I wasn't ready to loose - it'd be a real gamble.

Here's a web site with some references at the bottom of the page:

Let us know if you buy them or can get photos. And as always, never believe a single word told to you about herps from a pet store emloyee!

Cerberus rhynchops - the venom is said to be very mild having little to no effect on humans (if you're bitten at all).
I have no personal experience with Asian water snakes, sorry. However, I believe the care is quite basic and easily met. Notwithstanding, as noted below; a prior knowledge (experience) regarding parasites and their potential is advised.
