are BPs climbers?

nightserpent Jun 12, 2005 09:23 PM

Hello-

I will be adopting my first BP from an animal shelter shortly (the poor thing has been horribly burnt by one of those damn hot rocks), and I am currently setting up an enclosure for him.

Some of the articles I've read about BPs in general say that they like to have climbing limbs in their enclosure. Is this true? I haven't seen many photos of BP enclosures with climbing limbs in them. From what I've read, it sounds like they are more into burrowing (inhabiting termite nests, etc), and their body types aren't typical of a classic climber (thin and long).

I just purchased a pro-heat IR radiant heat panel which will be mounted on the top of the cage, so branch would allow it to fine tune it's thermo-regulation. But, I have to wonder, will it even bother using a branch?

Do any of your BPs make use of climbing limbs?

thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

-Paul

Tho balls are mostly terrestrial, I have found that my little guys do tend to enjoy a dowel type jungle gym to play on, but as they grow they do less and less climbing. A climbing vines (or thin branches like in an arboreal set up) wouldn't be a good choice for an adult, but I bet he'd appreciate a thick log or two to climb on and maybe some steps or different levels on which to perch. Good luck with your new one guy.

I've been told he's about 2' long. About what size do they tend to stop climbing? Would he prefer the steps at this size?

thanks again for the reply!
