Breeding an 05 animal in the 05/06 season?

savvgawd Jun 13, 2005 11:33 AM

Would this be possible? I really would like to hatch out some pastels this upcoming season along with my albino tics. I have heard of some breeding their ball pythons at 6 months of age? I would like to aquire a lemon pastel, not just any old pastel which is why I cant come across an 04 animal. Any input would help, thanks.

You may get a male up to weight and ready by this breeding season - since you are planning to work with pastels if you should be able to pick up a normal female or two of breeding weight for him. There is no guarantee tho, some males will be ready to breed at 400 or 500 grams some other not until they are up to 1000. Some will breed their first season and some not until thier second or third. good luck with your project.

Pushing animals to breed will get you nowhere. Healthy steady growth & maturity is the way to go if you want to have long term success in breeding any herp.

Just my $.02

Yearling or younger breeder males are the exception to the rule...

Also, they might have the gun but can be shooting blanks...
