I bought a new tokay gecko, its a baby. He is pretty quick (all I have is 3 leopard geckos)and I am wondering if he will be able to get out of the cage? There is a top on it, but its not latched with anything (it is a folding top, opens in the front). Is there anything I should know about tokays besides the fact that they bite? can i stick my hand in to clean after it goes to the bathroom during the day while he is in his hiding spot, or will he come out at me? any advice will be helpful. also, it is captive bred.Thanks.

with any wall climbing geckos I put a big book on the lid of there cage just to be safe.also if you spot clean in his cage he should just stay in his hiding spot that I know of as if hes that little he should not come out to threaten you.just my opinion

For good tokay information, pick up McKeown's manual "General Care and Maintenance of Tokay Geckos." It is available at most all pet stores or at bookstores on the internet. I've used it dozens of times when I've had tokay questions or just want to check that the information I am getting on the web is good advice.

Tokays won't attack you. They will bark(snap) at you if they feel threatened. Putting your hand very close to it can cause this reaction. Normally putting your hand in his home should be fine if its in its day hideout, just watch getting your hands to close to him for a while. I can wipe the glass next to all mine and even brush them and get no reaction from them. With time and patience it will learn you, your voice and the things that you do and not feel as threatened. Beware, even a nice Tokay can have a bad day though.
