Leucistic or what?

lillesspetz Jun 13, 2005 04:12 PM

Just got this one from Petsmart here. $75 GAH! Just so cute through and it was crowded in that small little tank they shove them in so I figure I save it and give it a 10 gallon tank of its own.

Anyways, They call it leucistic but I was searching the internet all I got was baby pics of the leucistic. Anyone got an adult pic for me to compare? Or just tell me.

This one has some yellow hue and two black spots. One on the base of the tail and another few that is semi noticable near the back of the front leg leg.

Also how many inches can a leopard gecko be at 6 months?

Not an True Leucistic and itis Blizzard.... It denpends how the person raise the Leopard Geckos. How they raise them effect their sizes at age... That one looks like 8 month old to me unless your hand are small... Nice Blizzard and what PetSmart marked this one as?

PetSmart called it a "Leucistic" I talked to the manager who was helping me. She actually thinks that a Leucistic is another gecko that is related to the leopard gecko. Um.... kinda like how fat tail are except they need higher humidty or something like that.

I dunno if she is right, but I thought Leucistic was just another coloring like Blizzard, Carrot Tail, um... Ghost, pastel and so forth.

So This is a Blizzard?!?! HOLY COW! You're kidding me. I thought Blizzards are more of a pinkish tone or white.

Heh this one threw me off. He's grayish, with some yellow, does have blueish tone in the eyelids through.

Woohoo! I'm learning! I like the feeling of learning.

ehehe. Mind me I'm an immature person.

it actually looks like a leucistic to me. they have the more yellowish color. while blizzards have a whiter looking color. but it's hard to tell. nice gecko though

Thats definately a Blizzard not a Patternless (Which is the correct name for a Leucistic). With proper care and heating he could lighten up from that darker grey to a lighter color.

Nice looking leo, definately a blizzard. Here's mine, she's still quite young.

Definately a blizzard. Petsmart normally labels their patternless as leucistic when they get them in (when the patternless morph was first marketed it was incorrectly called a leucistic). Blizzards (which have been incorrectly called the "true leucistic" can be highly variable. They can range from dark gray, to almost white; yours looks to be kind of in between the extremes. But, the darkness / lightness of the blizzard can change depending on mood, temperature, and substrate color. Blizzards can also be bright yellow (bannana blizzards), some even have very slight carroting at the tail base; these are the hardest ones to tell apart from the patternlesses. When my Petsmart initially got in their blizzards, they were correctly labeled as: blizzards. Now, however, with the subsequent shipments I've often seen them incorrectly labeled as leucistic.

To date, there is no true leucistic leopard gecko. A true leucistic would have a completely colorless body, with pigmented eyes. Becuase blizzards are often shades of gray with varying degrees of yellow, they are obviously not leucistics.

So true leucistic leopard gecko are like white or close to it? and can have any color eyes? How cool.

Still can't believe I got a blizzard. I'm such a tard at times.

Ok so patternless are the ones that have the sorta yellow body with the tail being slighty white or something like that?

No true leucistic? does that mean theirs no pictures either? I'll never know what a leucistic will look like gah. Must find!

GreggMM Jun 14, 2005 10:41 AM

Like Alice said, that is a blizzard....

Also, like Alice said, there are no true luecistic leopard geckos..... IF there was they would have colorless bodies and the eyes would most likely be anywhere from blue to almost black.....

Patternless babies are blotchy looking..... They are actually born with a pattern and it fades as they mature.....

Blizzards are born without a pattern.....

There are many more differences but these are the basic ones.....

Blizzards, patternless, tangs, normals are all leopard geckos..... They are the same species no matter what color they have..... Although their sub species can vary....
