off-topic - filed herping in CA

insular_exotics Jun 13, 2005 10:19 PM

Hi All-
Sorry for the off-topic, but I am travelling to Long Beach next week for a conference and I have free time on Fri and Sat (June 24 & 25). If anyone knows of any good herping spots (just to see/photograph animals, not collect) within a reasonable drive of Long Beach, please clue me in as this is this East Coast boy's first trip to CA!
To avoid clogging the Uro forum with this, please contact me via e-mail.
Thanks
Rich

chuckwalla forum, alot of them may know some good places, as they like to spot those good looking chucks, and many of the cool desert species!

Good luck on your trip, hope you get to see some beauties.

If you take pics , come back and share them,

Enjoy !

the field herping forum... perhaps you already have, but i only check there once in a while. seems a lot of people do herping around cali, so you might get some good responses. good luck and be sure to let us know if you uncover any gems.

as for me, in about 2 weeks im heading back down to the florida keys for about a week, and will possibly be spending a few days in the everglades too. im going with only the best of the buddies from the trip i took back in december, and since its summer this time it should be even better than before. hopefully this time we'll come across a diamondback, i know that will be really intense!!! still never seen any of those in the wild, personally. some corals would also be a first for me. thenagain, theres a lot of snakes/lizards/other herps that could be first timers for me! I CANT WAIT!

Just pick up a Stebbin's Field Guide to Western Reptiles and Amphibans and look at the map section, relate this to habitat description and where you are, and I'm sure you will find a few herps.
