Jungle morph questions

jeff_serrao Jun 14, 2005 01:27 PM

Trying to find out more about "Jungles" from the source

- are they a simple recessive, co-dom trait, or like pastels ( something people just use an arbitrily descriptive term ? )

- is their a super jungle ?

- how long have they been around ? anyone know who started them or their history ?

would love to see some pictures of how they look as adults

any info would be appreciated - thanks in advance... Jeff

The true Jungle mutation was a Swedish born trait. The breeder (I do not know who) proved the gene to be inherited in a co-dominant manner. Peter Kahl brought them into the United States and could provide you with the best information. There is, or at least was a Super Jungle.

If you see a "JUNGLE" offered for sale be very questionable. A LOT of people are selly abberant (non-genetic trait) animals as jungles. Jungles do have a specific look to them in color and pattern (pattern is variable). Talk to Peter and get more information. Jaguar Breeding Center, is in Sweden and may have produced them first I am not sure, they also had the Jaguar Carpet Pythons, thus the company name. Celia Chien and another breeder or two did just have litters, I think one was Mark Miller.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Hello Jeff,

The Jungle morph can be very confusing so I'll try to share a little bit of information with you...

Jungles are a co-dominant morph. Most of the confusion with this morph is determining what is a Jungle and what isn't. If you take a look in the classifieds, you'll see a few people advertising boas for sale as "Jungle-ish". Boas advertised in this manner are generally not from the genetic Swedish line of Jungle Boas. The Swedish line of Jungle Boas is the ONLY proven line of Jungles with a SUPER form (as far as we know of).

The Swedish line of Jungle Boas was originated by Lars Brandle and was brought to the U.S. by Peter Kahl. I'm not sure when Pete imported the first Jungle Boas. Pete does have some background information about Jungle Boas on his website as well as some photos of older animals. Here is the link to the section on Jungle Boas on his website...

I personally find that my Jungles tend to turn a very nice yellow coloration as they grow. I have a female that is about 3 feet long right now who is just neon yellow. My adult male is not as bright as she is but is more of a golden yellow coloration. We have some photos and information on our Jungles on our website. Here is the link to that...

I hope this information helps!
