Just had to share my good news. Recently I bought a new hatchling rack only to find out that it wasn't secure for colubrid hatchlings. I lost four or so hatchlings and found three of them. Sold all but one of the entire clutch, and had one that was "at large". Was afriad I would never find the little bugger.
Well this evening the door to our mouseroom was open for a while, and my stepson (9 years old) came into the house to tell us the tragedy, saying mournfully, "Now we'll never find Knight" (he'd named the snake). My husband went out and noticed motion at his feet. There just outside the door, crawling into the crabgrass, was our little escapee, a week after escaping.
Little guy looked VERY chubby (probably found some hatchling house geckos). Ate a pinky right away. I'm so glad I found him. Just thought I'd share my good luck. Not all escapees are caught, but there is always hope!
