I'm a newspaper editor in south Georgia, and I'm working on a story about treating snake bites from native venomous snakes. I'm also an experienced herpetoculturist with a fair amount of exposure to indigenous venomous snakes. (I currently have two large Burmese pythons, a four foot boa, a small ball python and a four foot Eastern diamondback in my collection.) I know a fair amount about venomous snakes, and I have some general knowledge about how the venom from native snakes reacts to the body when a bite takes place. However, I'd like to talk to someone more experienced than myself, someone who could possibly supply me with photos of bites. If anyone out there would like to chat, either via telephone or electronically, send me an email at rnhpreston@alltel.net. I certainly want to cast snakes in a positive light here, and give general snakebite information, what to do if bitten, what to expect, and most importantly, how to avoid getting bitten. I'd also like to take the opportunity to give venomous snakes some positive press. If you're interested, let me know. I am on a deadline; the story will likely run Thursday, so I would need to communicate with someone by early afternoon Wednesday.
