Changing terrarium.

Mizar 21 Jun 14, 2005 03:55 PM

I'm changing my gecko,s terrarium, i was feeling that the old one was a little too small, he wasnt moving much and always wanting to go out. He was in a 24 large x 12 deep and 16 high, now moving to a spacious 46 large x 16 deep and 24 high with plenty of hiding place, live plants and real rocks ...Now he's very busy exploring all that My question is do you think that he can go for the summer without an undertank heater ? The old one is stuck under his old terrarium and i'm affraid of broking it by removing. I might buy one quite soon, but i was wondering if with the hot temp of the summer coming in if i can go without an undertank heater ? I'll post pics of his new enclosure soon .

It depends on where you are from. Around here(southern maine) in the summer i turn all heat off in my leo's enclosure. During the day if i leave him heat on temps can get to above 100degrees. Without heat he stays around 90 and at night drops to the high 70's low 80's. I would recomend keeping at least a small heat bulb available just in case...weather changes, as we all know. For example, it was close to 100 and humid here yesterday and today its 50degrees and raining hard!

Ok, do you have an undertank heater all the time ? I'm in southern Quebec , here too yesterday it was hot and humid and today a little bit cooler...not easy keeping temp stable in weather like that

My gecko is moving all around in his new enclosure, he seem a little bit agitated...I hope he settle down quickly...i made the move one hour ago !

why not have a uth with thermostat attached all year around. then if its too hot in the summer you wont ove rheat it becasue the thermostat wil just turn it off. and it will acomodate the dips in temps

I have found that UTH, at least the zoomed brand, are quite easy to remove and tend to reatain a good amount of there sticky stuff. I have move one 4 times now and it still sticks quite well. Heat transfer is fine as well.
