Cricket escapee's!

Trinacliff Jul 13, 2003 10:42 PM

I'm so peeved...this little disobedient child was at our house this afternoon, and I caught him playing with the cricket container (don't ask me where his parents were!)...I busted on him and made him put it away. I didn't look really closely, but tonight, I go in there and see that there are only 5 large crickets left...all the tiny ones that I have been scrounging up for my baby pygmy leaf are GONE! So, luckily, I have a few fruit flies in my old culture that I thought was dead...so she can eat those tomorrow and my order of crix and FF will arrive Tuesday AM.

Anyway, I'm wondering...without food and water, how long will the crix live? Will they just die? If my husband finds out he'll have a fit! EEEEEK!

Thanks!
Kristen

Kristen-

Well crickets can live for days maybe even a week or so with out food. If the kid let allot free in your home they will eat each other so they could stay alive for 6 weeks. Good luck!

Don't worry I doubt they are going to crawl together and start feasting on each other til adult hood. They will crawl into hiding place and die their. He may catch a glimpse of a couple but being pinheads doubtful.

Well, I guess I can hope that they don't find each other to munch on. I think that maybe 10 escaped...at the most 15.

I certainly hope he doesn't see any or he's not going to be happy with our new little cham living in our house. Oh dear...

I dropped a container with a full 1000 pinheads in my livingroom about two weeks ago and I never saw them again. Of course I did see several very fat happy looking spiders running around.
