insular_exotics Jun 14, 2005 06:33 PM

I am headed to Long BEach next week for work and have free time Fri and Sat to do whatever. Does anyone know of good herping (as specific as possible would be nice since I'm limited on time) within a reaosnable drive of Long Beach(less than 2 hours?) I mostly just owuld like to spend some time in the field and get some pictures while I'm out there.
Thanks for any help!
Rich

The Palm Springs area is about 2hrs from you, Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains are about 1hr away, and Palos Verdes is about 30min away. I've found snakes in PV, but the hiking never gets you out of view of houses - it just doesn't feel very "away from it all". The other two can be beautiful snakes or not!

Long beach is a huge area, so my times could be off, and of course any time could be multiplied by 6 for traffic!

I don't know anything about night driving...I just hike.

good luck,

Jake

Take the I-405 North.. to the 210 about 40 miles.. take the 210 east until you get to I 605.. take 605 south to spring street.. exit and drive into Eldorado Park.. pay fee... walk trail.. you will find turtles, lizards, gopher snakes, cal kings, and garter snakes..

Good Luck
