Let me know what you think.

This one is my favorite... you'll have to copy & paste the link to see this one properly though.

Andrew,

That shot that you used the link for is certainly the best....that tongue is great!

Maybe a point to think about...I find that herp shots are much more appealing on a more natural looking background....sure it takes time and effort to setup a stage but when looking back on your shots its usually worth it....and a stage can be anything from a large flat rock with some leaves around the edge to really elaborate ones with lots of plants etc.

the other thing is its nice to know how you got the shot you took for example:

the below shot is a little whip snake (a small venomous elapid from South Eastern Australia) The photo was taken on my kitchen table....I laided out a sheet of newspaper, spread out some leaves and twigs, put the snake under a tub to curl up, took the tub off and took the photos.

The image specifics : Nikon f60 set of Apeture priority mode, 300mm telemacro (ratio of 1:2), f11, sb 24 speedlight on ttl.

Pity with this shot that the head is blurred.

Nice shots Andrew and a nice shot Scott. I agree with Scott with the whole background thing to a point. Its nice to have contrasting backgrounds to help the animal stand out more. I love using grass personally for a number of reasons: It helps accentuate dark animals, i love using Natural Sunlight and i like to blur the background a little with an aperature in the range of 2.8-5.6 The background with the racer is a toughie though because it isnt dark but it isnt bright either. I think it would look great in the grass or on a home stage, it doesn't matter where it is its a nice snake! Is it yours Andrew or is it WC? IF its WC i can se why you may not have wanted it inside in close proximity! Anyway nice shots both of you, keep up the good work and good luck!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the tips. I took the pics on the grass because the animals colors show up better on it. And if she tried to get away I would be able to snatch her up easily. And yes, she is a WC.

Ill try to keep the pics comin. I love photographing my animals.

Thanks,
Andrew
