BRB question

rocket Jul 13, 2003 10:51 PM

I got a BRB about two weeks ago. 5' male. He seems healthy and was very tame the couple times I handled him. I feed him a rat F/T and left him for a couple days. Since then, 1 week ago, he has been in his water bowl everytime I check on him. Is this normal? Also when I tried to pick him up out of the water bowl tonite, he hissed at me. Never experienced that before. He does have a warm and cool side hide and the water is in the middle. Cool side 75 and warm from 85-88. Humidity is usually 85-90%. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Rocket,
. Albinoman is prolly right. BRBs do often spend several days soaking. You should check very carefully for mites though. A snake with mites will often soak and leave dead mites in the water where they are easy to see if you look for them.

Could it possibly be preparing to shed?? Has it's eyes turned cloudy? Just a thought.

I don't know about you guys, but I notice my BRBs in the water often. Perhaps I just use very comfortable water dishes.

mine did when she soaked all of the time and was a little touchy. If I were you, I would go ahead and do a mite treatment on him. BRB's require good humidity, but if you already have that taken care of - then he shouldn't be soaking that much.

I will check for mites. Good Thought. As far as shedding goes, its last shed was about a month and half ago according to the person I got him from. Doesn't look milky at all. Thanks guys.

When I got home today he was definitely milky. Gonna shed! Thanks to everyone for your help. Now I know what to do for mites.
