Want to be sure of snake breed

aspivey Jun 15, 2005 09:43 AM

This snake surprised my wife while she happened to have a large shovel in her hand. My wife is a firm believer in "the only good snake...etc". She thought that it was a copperhead but I believe it to be a non-venoumous corn snake. Can someone verify the ID of this snake? http://www.carolinaboy.com/corn_snake.htm

Thank in advance

Please tell her that every time she kills a nonvenomous snake, it leaves even more food and territory for the venomous ones. So she is promoting the very copperheads (and other potentially dangerous snakes) that she thinks she is killing!

Kathy,
Thanks for the reply. Yours is a very correct observation and I agree totally. Fear and a lack of knowledge regarding snake proper identification resulted in a loss of a contributor in keeping rodents etc. from uncontrolled breeding; additionally, it really was a pretty reptile.

Thanks again
