Question about insulationg AP rack

xdeus Jun 15, 2005 01:39 PM

Hi,

I'm trying to insulate my new AP rack and was wondering what the best way to go about it. Right now it seems that the entire rack is being heated by the heat tape and a lot of that is being used to heat the room. I'd like to keep the heat in the rack a little better and was planning on using 1-inch styrofoam board but then started looking into Reflectix. It seems like the Reflectix might be better used if it was installed on the inside walls of the rack, but being that I need something to go on the oustside, would the foam board be better?

I would use Reflectix regardless of whether you put it on the inside or outside.

On the inside might look better and the performance might be slightly better.

Is this belly heat or back heat?

Also, have you taken the surface temps of the outside of the rack? Unless the outside surface temps are quite warm you might not get the effect you want.

It's indirect belly heat which means there is heat tape on the bottom of each shelf about an inch from the rear wall. The temps on the back and sides are about 6 degrees warmer than the ambient temps of the room.
