Snakes on Pelee Island are: Eastern fox snake (listed), blue racer (listed), L. Erie water snake (don't know if listed), Eastern garter (melanistic and normal), and the brown snake. We found all, except the blue racer, and all seem to be common. Most of our finds were in the rocks along the shore or inland within a block or two. One end of the island has forest and hiking trails and marshes. I'd stay on that end and away from the many people who live and vacation there.

>>Well, i've been going up to Ontario every summer my whole life to a family cottage (I live in Texas), and people always keep telling me Pelee Island is FULL of water snakes so this summer i'm going to find out. I'll probably only be able to go over there for a day though and want to make the most of it. So if anybody has been there and has any tips on the best places to look please let me know. I'll probably be going somewhere between mid July and early August.
