CAGE BOTTOM.....HELP!!!

herpeguitarogist Jun 15, 2005 10:59 PM

I'm getting an australian water dragon...and I have the cage almost finished...but I need some sort of liner for the bottom of the cage. What could I use...I was thinking of a shower liner, but i don't know...what works well. It needs to be water resistant, or can tolerate high amounts of humidity. Any answers would help....thanks

The thicker wall paneling for showers would work. Is that what you mean?

Make sure you get one actually rated for use inside of showers. Many home improvement centers carry a "shower board" that actually should not be used inside of stalls. You can still use these non-rated products but you may have to replace them every couple of years in a water dragon cage. Especially an Australian.

Yes, definately make sure it's not the showerboard designed for non water contact. This typically will be a plastic coating over a pressboard backing. I would reccomend maybe FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic paneling), or a solid plastic sheet. These are both 1/8" thick and available from Home Depot or the like.

I built my cage for my green tree python and lined it completely with the FRP, this is a very high humidity cage, and it works great. FRP is used in resturaunt kitchen walls, even behind the oven. It protects very well.

another option I have used in my snake cages is Formica and contact cement. Still leaves seams at the corners but a lil caulk and all is good. Best done prior to assembly though.
