Feeding question for a young cham.

m1ke386 Jun 16, 2005 12:59 AM

My veiled chameleon is about 2 months old. For some reason, he will not eat mealworms, or waxworms. He eats crickets like their going out of fashion. So, i put one cricket in a small cup with the mealworms, and waxworms and he just ate the cricket and left the everything else there. So, what should i do??

What is wrong with dusted crickets? Chams usually eat mainly crickets until they are 4 months of age.

Young chameleons won't immediately recognize the worm as a food source. After he gets his first bite, he'll begin taking them regularly. Keep in mind that mealworms and waxworms should be offered only as treats.

In the meantime, make sure you are gutloading your crickets with leafy greens and other fresh veggies. Offer your crickets a slice of orange as well.

Take care.
