Question about Double Clutching????

bblack Jun 16, 2005 06:18 AM

I have a female Butter corn that laid a clutch a couple weeks ago..Will she end up laying another one even though I did not put her back with the male? Would it be good to put her back with the male so if she does lay again the eggs would be fertile?

Thanks for your help,
Bill

There are a number of factors which determine if a snake will double clutch. Part of it has do do with genetics, some snakes seem to double no matter what. It is important to feed the female frequently. This way, if she does have another clutch, she'll have enough energy reserves to produce her second set of eggs. Most breeders feel that re-introducing the female to the male will increase the chance of fertility (the more breedings, the better).
