het albino boa female gravid?

bigdee Jun 16, 2005 01:39 PM

I caught my male and female locking up early march, I havent checked on them in a few weeks when I did they where already locked I witnessed it for a week but dont know how long before that. She shed later that month and just shedded again a couple of weeks ago. With all this can she be gravid and it not be noticeable? I have seen some pics of gravid females that was huge but my female is not huge at all I figured in 3 mths they should be swelled already. Also she is moody I havent handled them in months but the male is no problem, the female has never been this moody. I tried to take her out and she was all over the place trying to get out of my hands and after her opening her mouth I put her back and left her so i woulndnt get bit.

When you said "She shed later that month and just shedded again a couple of weeks ago" - when exactly was the first time she shed? If it was back in March and you are counting that as her post ovulation shed, then I would say she is either gravid and going to give birth any day now or she is not gravid at all.

If that was not her post ovulation shed and you are thinking that the most recent shed is, then of course you would want to start counting from there. If you don't check on them regularly, you very well could have missed her ovulation.

How big is she? We have some really big females that are difficult to tell if they are gravid or not because they are so big. However, these girls are all in the 8 1/2 to 9 feet long range. Does she look swollen or lumpy at all? Depending on if she is gravid or not and if so, how far along she is, the last 1/3 of her body should be at least slightly larger looking than usual.

I hope this help. Good luck with her!

Thanks,
Celia
