First of all, I'd have to say that males average 11 to 13 feet max "average",.. but ocassional individuals CAN become much larger. But just because some males can reach 17 feet does not by any means indicate that every burmese male will reach 17 feet. One may compare it to humans and the low incidence of 7 foot tall men. Sure they do reach 7 feet,. but not usually. So what I'm saying in effect is that genetics do also play a role.
And when I said I kept my males under 10 feet,. I didn't mean indefinitely. just for as many years as I can do so while maintaining health in the males. Eventually they will top 10 feet. It may be 6 years,.. it could be 10 years, but they will continue to grow. I do not stop their growth, I merely slow it to the slowest possible rate that a healthy diet allows. Their food items will always continually increase in size so as to maintain optimal health in the snake, just never enough to promote eccessive growth. But when you feed your pythons a meal good enough to maintain a nice weight and girth, there will be some growth. So if you feel that you can't have a 12 foot snake in 10 years,.. please don't get one. Opt for a blood python. They are similar in mass and build and are in affect a short/big snake.

It isn't "Ideas" that fail or succeed,... it is the "Systems" which are instilled to launch and sustain the idea that either fail or succeed.>[Me.]
At the risk of sounding arrogant or cocky, I must say that after reading several of your posts(especially this one) here, I'm starting to question your credibility, not to be confused with your motives, which I'm sure are noble. So let me get this straight...
In a previous post you stated that you not only keep well over a hundred snakes, but that you also care for(between you and your wife) tortoises, gators, iguanas, water dragons, dogs, cats, pigs, and what, over a thousand rats and rabbits? You claim to maintain all of these animals(cleaning, feeding etc.) in less than two hours a day. That's not hard to swallow, that's impossible to swallow!!! I don't care what kind of "system" you have in place. That's not possible. Now you want people to believe that you can manipulate growth in pythons with a "special" diet? Come on Brian.
No, that's all accurate. I'm sorry, but I can't help you if you personally question as to whether or not it may take me longer. Maybe it does, who knows. I never really timed it except once when I was trying out a new bowl washing system and I wanted to see if it took much less time. And I really don't count the pigs and other pets. That's all fun stuff and I don't look at it as a chore. Besides, it is still limited to tipping and refilling a big water bowl and delivering a pitcher of pig food, lol. The african spurred tortoises mostly feed themselves as they have their own yard, but we do go out and spoil them from time to time with a smorgasbord of fruits and veggies for fun and because we love them. The iguanas we simply hand a pile of veggies each day as we pass them. The rats and rabbits are on self sufficient systems that require little to no maintainence. I don't know what else to tell you, that's just how it is. And finally, Yes, my male pythons stay smaller for MUCH longer on a limited diet of large rats. Maybe someone else can explain to you as to why this works. It really seems obvious to me. Have a nice day new friend. And keep on herping
P.S. We have a fairly extensive mouse breeding system too. (Also self sufficient)
