Would this work??Plus some ofther stuff

stickyfingers Jun 16, 2005 07:01 PM

I am interested in mabey getting a pair of tokays. I have much experience in othe reptiles. I was wondering if using a repitarium would work if the back and some of the sides were covered from the outside with something like saran wrap. I know it wouldn't be preaty but I'd just like to use what I have (38 gal)or (65gal). I have anothe q about the petstore I go to , many of their tokays are very drab and dark in coloration compared to some. Could this be because of stress? If so could it brighten up? and thay charge an extra 5 dollars to specify sex i think thats kind of outragous. What should I look for to specify sex myself? Thanks..

if a repitarium is the screened cages i would not recomend them... they dont hold humidity. as for the coloration my tokay gets almos black with orange spots when stressed so as to the coloration it realy depends on the tokay but i bet it is just stressed expecialy if it is WC. as for sex the females will have considerably smally pores between their legs... not know the name for them pores... i forgot... lol. any the males will have bigg pores and it will feel waxy to the touch if when you touch it.

Thanks man, Also i used to have a golden gecko that was the shyest thing Ive ever seen It woundn't just move away it would bolt inside its cave if it saw you in the room. I'm hoping mabey the tokays more aggresive personality would make it less shy. Also what are you using for a substrate. Something that wouldn't allow crickets to hide easily. And do you feed yours be just dumping all the crickets in and let them get hunted or do you try to keep the in a dish Much luv

For Reptariums they make a plastic cover called Soft Tray. It fits on the outside of the frame but inside of the screening. Using anything like plastic or cellophane on the outside is a bad idea because of how often the screening would have to be cleaned. You should always use a Reptarium with a Soft Tray because all substrates will pass through the screen without it.

Trust me, I learned from experience! The 65gal is a bad choice because they don't sell Soft Trays in the tall orientation for that size. The 38 gallon is a good choice.
