Speaking of 50% Poss. Hets!!!

Eric Sandoval Jun 17, 2005 12:27 AM

I was going to wait until they left the eggs to take pics, but since 50% hets came up I thought I'd shoot some. This is our first clutch of the year hatching.

In 2002 we bought 0.5 50% hets from the Sutherlands (thanks you two). All 5 were bred to a pied and have laid or are about to lay eggs soon. This was the first clutch to hatch, one down hopefully there'll be a couple more with the same results.

Thanks for looking,
Eric

That's awesome Eric , I produced 6 Poss Het Pied females a few years back , I sold one of them to Chad Fuchs in WI and kept back the other 5 , and to my surprise 4 out of the 5 Poss Hets have proven out to be Hets by producing Pieds, actually the 5th female hasn't laid anything yet, but I seriously doubt she's a Het since her other 4 sisters are... I'll include a Pic of a cople of the males that I've hatched from these girls, they were hatched from a Het male by the way... This year I picked up an Unrelated Wagner line adult male Pied from Mike Jolliff, he did a great job breeding , I hope to hatch some killer pieds very soon from breeding back to the het females! Good luck with the other 4 Poss Hets Eric! Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles.

Sorry Tony, but why would you 'seriously doubt' that your last female is a het based on your good luck with the others? She still has a 50/50 chance of being a het. The percentage chance of being a het is applied to each INDIVIDUAL. That her siblings have already proven to be hets has no bearing on what her chances are, so she STILL has a 50% chance of being a het.

I realize that each has it's own individual chance of being a het , but my thinking is that the odds of 5 out of 6 50% chance het animals proving out to all be hets (so far the other one I sold has not proven out) is not very likely , in fact just getting 4 out of 6 to proven out is actually very good already, this would mean that 66% of the females proved to be hets when the results in theory should have been 3 out of 6 based on the 50% odds which they were "each" born with (parents were het male x normal female)!!! Either way I am happy for what I got, if the other proves out I'll be pleasantly surprised!!! Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles..
