more advice on removing unshed skin

gary1 Jul 14, 2003 06:05 AM

i posted before asking about removing a band of skin around my beardies tail which did not come of during shedding. i have tried bathing him in warm water a few times now and the skin hasnt loosened.

i was advised to try olive oil but im a little unsure what to do with it. should i put it on the unshed skin and leave it to seep in or should it only be left on for a while and washed of

any tips on removing unshed skin would be great !!

I put some vegetable oil on the "problem skin" and leave it there. I have also tried baths as you did.

I have also noticed that real sunlight makes the skin come off easier - so maybe you can try that? Just make sure your dragon isn't getting overheated when he/she is out in the sun, provide some shade.

Other than this, I have no idea what you can do... I am sorry...

My 7-week-old beardie is having problems shedding on top of her head. It looks like she can't quite get that part of her head to rub on the tree. She doesn't like water too much so I've been wetting a wash cloth and gently wiping the area. No luck. Should I try the olive oil suggestion, too? I don't want it to get in her eyes.....

Hi there,
I find with my babies when they are not shedding right that Olive oil does the trick. I just brush on some Olive Oil to the bit thats having trouble shedding and it usually peels off in one lump by the next day.
I do also find that putting them in the sunshine and a nice warm bath does help too.
I dont think there is anything else you can do.

ok i done the olive oil thing last night, the unshed band of skin now has a darker, wet/oily apearance so im hoping it will shed soon.

if it dont come of by tomorrow should i try the olive oil again ?

If that doesnt work, you can try a spray they have at Big Apple Herpetological, sry i don know the url, just enter the name in a search. But they have spray that helps with shedding.
