hi there. i'm going to attempt to include some pix w/this, but if it doesn't work, i apologize in advance. so here's what's up ....

1. on monday, my uromastyx (named Sir Anthony Hopkins because of a striking resemblance in my opinion) passed away. I'm not certain how old he was, though he spent about 4 1/2 years with me. I got him from like PETCO or some crap place like that that had about 12 of them crammed in together. In any case, I'm finally getting around to asking a few questions & so forth.
2. The place where I bought him claimed he was an aegyptus, but due to the fact that he never got huge plus the fact that he doesn't look THAT much like an aegyptus, i'm assuming they were wrong. pretty certain he was male, since he had those little holes on his back legs, but i've never been certain if he was aegyptus/mali/etc., since many of the pix look incredibly similar to me. [picture attempt]:

the first pic is of him about 2 weeks ago, a fairly good overall pic, i think. the second & third pix are of him over the weekend, while he was shedding.

3. he was acting listless this weekend, which is unusual for him, but he was also shedding, so that's what i assumed was wrong with him. he got better on monday morning, popping out & playing & coming for his food, but when he got to his food plate, he suddenly seized up & couldn't move very well. he was taken to a vet who gave him (i think) an antibiotic of some sort, but the poor little guy just wasn't moving very well. once he got home, he continued to try to move around (staying in the open, not bothering to go to his hidey-hole) and once flipped over completely, gasping for air. X-rays showed no internal blockage, so we were baffled as to what might be going on, except possibly he had a stroke of some sort. in any case, we gave him a little warm water bath & he seemed a bit happier after that but eventually just laid down & stopped breathing. wondering if anyone has any ideas on what might've happened. i feel horrible & really hope we didn't do something to precipitate this.

in any case, i appreciate any comments/feedback. thanks very much in advance. and if the links don't work, feel free to check them out manually:

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your lizardy friend! I am in the process of battling a weird infection in my Uro, whom I have had for about 7 years, and the idea of losing him is really too abstract to even ponder.

He doesn't look like the standard mali bodytype, but definitley mali coloring. He absolutely doesn't look like an aegyptius to me though.

Any thoughts I could give on what happened to him would be purely guesswork and speculation, hopefully someone else on the board will have a few ideas.

You and your friend are in my thoughts and prayers.

Elizabeth

As to what happened with your
Uro...Very hard to determine what the problem was. Why did your vet use antibiotics?
Also, hard to determine in the photograph, but what kind of substrate are you using?
I would also agree that your uro was a mali for sure. Definitely not an egypticus-although some mali's get fairly large...

I was also going to say that he looked like a mali. It just kills me to see an example of when one day all is good, and the next...well, you know. I hope that you find some answers, as that is really what I wanted when my mali died of lead poisoning.

Thats a darn shame. Like others have said, it would be very hard to say why he died, or from what, we just would not know !

Its sad, he was very handsome! I'm sorry, hope you feel better soon!
Take care,
