just an observation I thought I'd share:
I have a 3 year old male red bull (Ginter line, S.TX local) that I aquired about 6 months ago. He's being kept in one of my 6' "indigo" cages with a built in hide on one end, and a heat lamp installed on the other.
I quickly found out that this animal desires ALOT more heat than do the indigo snakes I keep. Typcially, the cages are 73-75 on the cool end...and throughout the whole cage at night. When the lamps kick on during the day, the warm side get to mid 80's (or 90s right under the lamp) while the cool side remains in the 70's.
My indigos will cruise in and out of the hide and bask for an hour or 2 here and there...but spend 80% of their time on the cool side of the cage.
I noticed the bull was always seeking the heat, and recently made a decision to leave his (red) heat lamp on 24/7.
This snake will lay in the warm area of the cage where it is 85 for well over half the day, and I even find him sleeping there at times throughout the night!
Heat-loving animal he is.
Red-bull gives you wings...
