True Roatan - Fire Belly Boa

JohnBerry Jun 17, 2005 09:05 AM

Was cleaning today and snapped this pic of my male Denis Sargent line Roatan Island - true "Fire Belly" Boa. These guys can display some amazing deep reds but this is his dark phase, which I think is kinda neat.

cheers, John

I was on Roatan about 8-9 years ago and saw a HUGE boa that had been road killed, I got a picture of it somewhere, I will see if I can find it. It had been several days so it was somewhat flat but it was nearly 8' in length as I recall.
Found some nice stuff there.
Cheers

...if you find them please email me (alphapython100@yahoo.com)

I have two 3 - 4 yr old females and they are both only about 4ft long. The female who produced these babies was also less than 5ft ...so these snakes can breed at a small size (and grow very slowly)... but there have been several reports of larger Boas from Honduras main land - in fact there seems to two different sized lines - but of course it could be that the sample size of animals collected has been too small and with exports now banned we have incomplete records. Either way they are amazing beautiful boas.

cheers, John
