Louise, the leo surrendered to my clinic, is doing so great! She eats like a little piggy and i can almost watch her gain weight every day. She is now up to 38.5g, when she first came in she weighed about 10grams. Her colors get brighter every day and her tail is as fat as can be! Its probably almost time to start looking for a new home for her, I might end up keeping her though, as i have become quite attached . Its a pity i dont have a picture to show you how terrible she looked when i first got her, but thats ok. The first pic is her a few weeks ago when she had started gaining weight and doing really well, she weighed about 24grams in that pic. the others are of her today!

I love this "before" & "after" stuff!

I see so many neglected and abused geckos. For some reason, more leos than other species. Its refreshing to see that we can turn some of these little guys around!

It makes me so angry that leopards are pawned off as "easy" pets and are then subject to mistreatment and misinformed care. I went to "Pet-No" for the first time in a long time to get a clicker for my dog training yesterday. I figured I'd pick up some substrate for my other herps since I was there. Long story short, they had like 5 TINY, malnourished, faded baby leos, 4 pale, decrepid looking juvenilles, and a practically dead bearded dragon baby about the size of 2 quarters stuck together. The babies looked no more than a few weeks old -- no honerable breeder would sell leos like this, all under 1 gram. All the feeder food in the fridge was dead. Needless to say, I was really pissed off, they didn't have ANY of the substrates I needed for my herps, and it was all I could do to restrain myself from giving the store my number to "donate the geckos too when they started dying". I bet uneducated people are actually PAYING for these dying little guys. So sad.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. I'm just so glad to see people doing good where they can. Congrats on the successful inteception! I bet she's much happier!

I think leo's get neglected more than other herps for just the reason you said they are pawned off as "easy" herps. When no animal should be considered "easy," each animal needs to have its individual needs met, and although some are more demanding than others, owning an animal is a demanding task regardless. Petstores sell these leos to little kids, or parents buying birthday presents for little kids. Its disgracefull. I worry that leo's may be becoming the next goldfish or iguana in terms of "disposable" pet, especially where the prices are so low on the normals. *sigh* But, we do what we can.

I love rehab work, it really reminds me what its all about, and that is the animals. If its not for them then its all a waste, and when you work rehab it really is all for them.

It really warms me to see her improve every day and to be able to play a part in her sucessfull recovery.

Thanks for the compliments, both of you. Louise thanks you as well

heehee, yeah my Rev Okeetee Autumn is such a great snake. She is shoveling down 3 pinks at a time and still "begging" for more! And growing like a little weed

I love the Okeetee morphs. Great...now I want your snake AND your dog...LOL.

Actually, one Rhodesian Ridgeback is definitely enough trouble...a big mischevious canine who has the balls to think she's invisible and thus, I "can't see" giant her when she's doing evil things like eating dead stuff in the yard...ACK!...hehe

Ok, back to work. I hate email.

She's quite a lot bigger now -- my pics folder hasn't been updated and she's almost 2...still growing...still Ridgeless! We've got our first "Canine High School" class tomorrow and I know that...with her being a Ridgie and all...there will be some pretty embarrasing moments. She's a bit strong, I only weigh like 120lbs and I've got to use a flat collar. Wish me luck!

Check the link for puppy photos!
