Escapee...

beardielover13 Jun 17, 2005 01:26 PM

My dragon is now in his cage, but last night at feeding time, i had the 3 bags of crickets on top of the cage while I was getting my supplements. Bubba, my male, climbed up his log. When I opened the top to dump some crickets in, he jumped out of his cage onto the UV lighting fixture (the aquarium type of fixture with a reptile light). He then proceeded to attack the bags of crickets. I put him in his cage and then he tried to catch the crickets tas they were being dumped out of the bag into the cage. He thought he was hungry.

Glad you got him before he got too far! Ours escaped when I pulled the top to dump the crickets in. I was using a screen cylinder feeder with a capped funnel on one in and a clip lid on the other side to put in crickets. I THOUGHT I had the cricket feeder lid on tight... I removed the cage screen cover openned the funnel and as I dumped in a couple my beardie jumped from his branch onto the feeder and then jumped to the floor to make his break. I flipped the feeder over to stop dumping them and the other 30 in it fell out the open backend and onto the floor too. My wife was working overnight so for me, it made for a very long night. Not to mention the financial cost of what I had to pay to the kids not to tell mommy about it!

Haha! They are much smarter than we give them credit for sometimes. My largest leo's tank is next to my tokays tank and the other night i set a bag of crix on top of the tokays and a couple minutes later the tokay was attacking the screen lid and barking like crazy trying to get them and Pogo (the leo) had climb up to the top of the branch in his cage trying to get them also!
