A question about anoles...

embibble Jul 14, 2003 07:45 AM

ugh... I just wrote this long message and my stupid computer lost it all... argg... Anyways basicly what it said is... I have two anoles one is smaller with a white stripe, and one is larger with a brown stripe. The smaller one's snout is like 1/2 the length of the larger one. Is it right to assume that atleast one is female? and theres a good chance the larger one is male? And then last night before I went to bed I checked on them and they were sleeping togeather, they larger one had his/her chin on the smaller ones head. It was pretty neat, thanks for your help!

The females do have much shorter noses than the males, so you could well assume you have a pair.

the only way to determine sex with anoles is to sex them, appearence usually isn't a good determination of sex in anoles. I've had male/male and female/female pairs mate..... because of breeders assuming and I've had male/female pairs turn out to be male/male or female/female, just dont get your hopes up.

I dont recomend sexing them that can be painful. females have white stripes down their back and very short heads,i would say "dainty". the males lack the stripe. The male also will have an hemipenal bulge behind his vent and the female of course will lack this.
