Sorry....had to post this. I finally got a pic of him. Very unusual, as neither he nor his pals hardly ever venture up during the day. My backyard is like a sanctuary...you name it, it eventually finds its way into my yard.
Sorry for the very off topic post. I just couldn't resist posting a pic of this cute little bugger.
Later!

Nocturnal animals coming out during the day is a sign of rabies isn't it? Definitely not normal behavior.

Usually seeing a raccoon in daytime means it is rabid because it is out of its ordinary behavior. However, there are sometimes in more urban areas, and/or a nursing mother may be seen during the day looking for food for her young.

However, if it appears odd in anyway, I suggest calling animal control. If you have children keep them away. Keep an eye out for anything odd. I once was visiting family in NY and there was a rabid raccoon on the front lawn. There was no question about it, it was acting like it was drunk - staggering and falling to one side. Very sad We called animal control right away because I have a sister who has CP, is deaf and has some neurological problems and we could not risk an encounter. Anyway, when they got there they ended up shooting it on the spot! None of us expected that and were rather upset when we heard the shot!

Thanks for the concern guys. I grew up seeing wild animals my whole life and this one is definitely not rabid. Trust me...I've seen plenty of rabid animals. Lele....that's horrible, but it had to be done. Poor guy....I'm glad no one got hurt though. Anyway, thanks again for the concern!
