I'd been wanting one of these guys for a long time, and low and behold we found them on our vacation! Here is our yet-to-be-named Argentine Black and White Tegu baby. I don't know the gender of the lizard yet. Any suggestions on a name?

well since i am into latin american studies i can probably find you some good argentine names, evita, juan peron and che are the only ones i can think of right now or if you have an adjective to describe the lizard i can put it into spanish for you

I like the idea of Argentine names a lot! Are there any good places with gender neutral names that would fit a lizard? That might work better than Negro Y Blanco

(Yo hablo un poquito español también!)

I think I really like "Tango," what do you think? I already have a "Jazz," so it seems to fit.

Great suggestions . . . and you're not too shabby with the language, either!

i like it too, very argentine, but it's time for more lizards, we got merengue, rumba, mambo and more ha ha and thanks for the spanish compliment. i do have a BA in it and i spent some time in chile and cuba but i just never get to use it in speaking anymore, which is odd in southern cal, i just never go anywhere because of all the school work

tango is anice nname, but im almost 100% sure that he is a columbian gold tegu. one easy way to tell is that argentines usually have white or even green heads when theyre babies and columbians have a high amount of golden yellow. how much did he codt? columbians cost anywhere from 20-60$ and baby argentines usually go for 80-120$ as babies. although argentines are almost always captive bred and columbians occasionaly are.

Thank you VERY much for drawing this to my attention!

When I purchased the lizard from the pet store (for around $50 if I remember correctly), I was told it was an Argentine Black and White. Having purchased an animal from this store in the past, and having been fairly impressed with the staff and the care they took of their animals, I trusted what the owner told me. Apparently, he didn't know the difference.

I just grabbed my lizard, brought it to the computer with me, and compared it (and its scales) to several websites that showed pictures of the two; it looks like you made a good call. Clearly, my baby is not the Argentine B & W Tegu--which is good (I guess) since I didn't really want a huge adult tegu. For a Columbian, this baby seems tame enough.

It looks I have a lot to learn about tegus, and I'm looking forward to becoming more aquainted with these beautiful, smart lizards. Thanks again for the heads up on the species info.
