milk snake not eating

midgaard Jun 17, 2005 10:34 PM

My son's milk snake has not eaten for over a month, and I am becoming increasingly concerned about his health. He is a five-year -old Sinaloan, and has been healthy since we got him in January 2005. In the last month he seems to have lifted a scale around his nostril, and though not unusual for his species to have a light patch aboout the nose, I am hoping this is not an infection - it doe s not ooze or appear moist. His previous owner (who is quite knowledgable on reptiles) works in a pet store and, I took the snake in for a check up- he said everything looked fine, and that sometimes snakes do rub against objects and raise scales a little. So my question for you out there is should I be concerned for his health, or is this likely to be just a period of eating inactivity?

Keep good weight records on your snake. Generally, a loss of greater than 10% is cause for concern, and a vet visit.

I'm sure the previous owner is indeed very knowledgeable about reptiles, but in general, the employment at a petstore does not do much to increase the knowledge of such animals. I just wanted to clear this up for the odd person who peruses these forums
