Adult Ball python has Diarrhea, anything I can do for her?

reptilenewby Jun 18, 2005 01:35 AM

I have an adult ball python I have had for a year now. I heard alot of farting coming from her cage and checked up on her and she had diarrhea. I soaked her in the tub w/ warm water and cleaned her cage. I was feeding her to many small meals the past few weeks, thats why I think she is bloated w/ the runs. Is there anymore I can do for her. I gave her plenty of water and will offer her food 7-10 days from now.

Sounds like a bacterial infection. Snakes don't "fart"......but bacteria produce gas which makes the snakes "fart". Take a fecal sample to a vet.

Corey

Easy Fix...she sounds like she has a protazoan infection which makes for bloating and what you are seeing. Use flagyl @ 125 mg/kg orally and repeat in 10-14 days. She should clear up using that. Besides killing amoebas and protazoas it is also a limted but effective bacteriacidal agent that can solve GI problems. So that may help with what Corey was saying.

Where can I get flagyl? Is the vet the only place I can get it?
