Hey everyone,
I read over on TT.com that there is such thing as a yellowfoot/redfoot hybrid. Is this true? Anyone have any pics or knows who sells them? And lastly, does this interspecies breeding occur in the wild?
Thanks!
Joe

While it is possible that these two species might interbreed I am not aware of any that are available and I have never seen or heard of a real hybrid.
The so called "orangefoot" tortoises that are being advertised recently are simply orange colored yellowfoots (C. denticulata). Chelonoidis denticulata can come in a variety of colors ranging from bright yellow to deep orange depending on their origin. There is a lot of confusion that can arise from common names like 'redfoot', 'yellowfoot', and 'cherryhead'. There is also a tremendous amount of misinformation lately regarding different forms of redfoots and other tortoises that adds to the confusion.
Orangefoot tortoises, DWARF Grenada cherryheads and so on, are perfect examples of very misleading and inaccurate advertising that fuels ignorance in the tortoise keeping world.
