sounds silly but me having animals most of my family, {sisters) dont come around that much because of me having so many pets...
i grew up with my aunt there is a years difference in our age.... she and her husband encourage me in to bringing different pets that i have over for their kids to see and learn about.
so far her kids have seen
* a sugar glider and how they bond to a person............
* rats how they bond to people and how social they actually are.
* ferrets how smart they are and how playful.
* tarantula's how pretty they actually are.
* corn snakes, and the fact that some snakes are not poisonous, and they actually are pretty in the different color morphs.
* and iguanas how huge they get and they are really difficult animals to keep and can be dangerous.
* they now have learned about hermit crabs.
* each of the kids have learn the proper way to handle each species of animal, as well as that you have to be able to learn and read an animals mood.

You have rats as pets too?
I have cornsnakes, rosy boas, 1 bts and 1 leo gecko.
I like my reptiles alot but my rats love me back.
They are so smart its scary sometimes.
They are WAY MORE than a food source.

I am shy and really have not met my neighbors until today.
It seems they found out I keep snakes and their 8 year has been asking for MONTHS if maybe someday he could see one of my snakes. I just found that out today. Needless to say, it will happen
BTW, my reptiles that eat rodents only eat f/t mice....

We have taken our collection of snakes to our kids classrooms over the last few years. I even have the kids bring the snakes in once a year to the Adult Day Care Center I work at! It is amazing to watch people with many preconceived ideas come around and really enjoy the snakes. We have converted many children, teachers and old folks into reptile lovers (ok not lovers but at least they appreciate and accept them)!
