What a Dork!!

SLeeVes Jun 18, 2005 09:17 PM

Does anyone else's ornate love to jump and climb on things?

he's up on the strip light in the top left of this pic:

he uses the mangrove root on the lower right to jump up on the light hood. it usually takes him several tries to get up there as the plastic is rather slippery.

here he is closer in that position:

after i started shooting some pics, he turned around to get a better look at what i was doing:

here he is closer in that position:

when he's finished hanging out up there, he just dives off like a little daredevil and goes about his business. very funny to watch. my other ornate is so boring compared to this one...no stunts whatsoever. lol. hope you all like the pics.

Not an ornate, but very close. My youngest ocellata, about the same size, I had found sleeping inside the melted heat shroud of my Vision cage like yours (Heater doesn't burn), and she often sleeps right out on top of the bare fluorescent bulb I've run through the interior of the cage. Since I discovered this behavior I've taped up the heat shroud and I added a simple wooden ramp for her to get up to the light instead of jumping up/down although she does that too.

I haven't seen any evidence in my adult ocellateds that they climb and jump like this, but it's very normal for my macfads to do it. They've been the best escape artists yet.

Young hardwickii in the same container as the young ocellated are completely devoid of this type of behavior.

hey, a ramp sounds like a good idea. i'd hate for him to hurt himself getting up there. although it's quite comical seeing how determined he gets after a few missed tries. maybe it's more stimulating when it's a challenge getting up there. anyway, i'll try a ramp tomorrow and see how he likes it.

ha ha. cute story and pictures and a very nice lizard you have. helga does not do much climbing since she has no back toes but hugo likes to climb my arm when i stick it in the cage, usually to get out to eat the piece of dry food i have dropped outside the cage, he is such a tubbo!

Looks like he's going for the baking spot just above the strip light. Maybe he needs a bit more heat? Very cute pics, though.
