Week Old Hatchlings

I decided to share some pics of my T.c. bauri aka Florida Box Turtles. Three more have torn their shells and are about to emerge! It's neat that with this subspecies; I've been able to safely double and even triple clutch my females as long as I follow strict diets and rest periods. Who said Atkins didn't work? I also have in separate quarters, three other subspecies
of boxies.

Second clutches aren't very unusual, and even third clutches if the season is longer (say, farther south). What state are you in?
My easterns here in central VA have routinely produce second clutches, with no specialized diet or rest period necessary. We had an unusually cool spring, so we'll see if there's any variation: one of our girls just laid 9 eggs, so we're very curious to see of she lays again or if that was it for this year.

While I have ties with the University of South Florida, and spend several months there; I also have Links and some land in Arizona as I work with reptiles representative of that area. However my main work is done in the Pacific Northwest. So I'm not in one area all the time.

With the exception of cooling periods; all boxies of the four native subspecies receive the same Husbandry Care.
My Easterns have never double clutched. They have frequently had clutches of 6 healthy eggs. My hatching rate is 94%.

It is with my Florida Boxies that I routinely can get three clutches; and just recently have been rewarded with a fourth clutch from one of my middle aged females. Of course the bauri being the smallest native subspecies also typically has smaller clutch sizes. Four being the average and rarely, I'll receive six.
