Garter babies

scott_felzer Jun 18, 2005 10:22 PM

Mike and Tom,

I don't tally total amount of babies but in an average year it's probably anywhere from 300-400. Right now I am about half way there. There is a lot of work for that amount of babies but I do enjoy it.

As long as you enjoy it it's fine with me lol.

That's alot of babies. How do you house them? I picture enclosures packed with whole broods, a water bowl, some rocks for shedding, then when they shed you sex them? And then split them up into males in one enclosure, females in another?

Wow I can't imagine how you do it lol.

All babies are housed individually, in 16 oz. deli cups. I sex them generally after they have eaten, via the popping method. I prefer setting them up in individual containers so I know which babies eat and which don't. I don't send the babies out until they have eaten several times.
