Where to buy 1000 mealworms

lillesspetz Jun 19, 2005 02:39 AM

I'm am so not growing these! I deal with the worms but not beetles! lol.

Anyways, just wondering what site you recommand to buy from. Yeah there's lots of them but I rather buy from a place with good reports then ones that have a good price but no reports.

But yeah I'm looking for about 1000 mealworms every month. So yeah post please....?

I just ordered 1000 from Ghann's cricket farm as I had always been satisfied with their crickets. Now, this report is second hand (from my wife as I am currently stationed in Korea with the Army) so please keep that in mind...

The meal worms arrived quickly but she says they are gross. She says they smell bad and are black not yellowish brown like normal. Now, I haven't seen that for myself but taking her word for it I would advise against getting the mealies from Ghanns. Their crickets, as I said, are great and I highly recommend their can o crickets for convenience, but I would avoid the worms.

I guess that doesn't help much but at least you can cross one place off your list lol.

Hi.
You could check out a reptile show. Hopefully you have one near you. Anyway usually you can pick up 1000 mealworms for around $12. And the advantage is you can look at the worms before you purchase them. Hope that helps.

I've been using Bug Co. for mealworms and crickets for about 2 years now and have had no problems.

I am TOTALLY for GrubCo ALL the way.. The mealies always arrive on time.. they're healthy and brown, like they should be.. they're packaged well... and they're INexpensive..

I can get 1000 mealworms of any size for $9.75 - after shipping! They're wonderful!!

Their website address is www.grubco.com/

I highly recommend them.

Also - just a side note - it's been mentioned on past threads that can o'crickets aren't good as a staple diet.. when they're freeze dried, they loose a lot of nutrients, and several people have had their leos get bad MDB (or is it MBD? urg brain fart), and as soon ass they managed to get them back on a normal staple diet - if they were able to do so at all - they got healthy again quickly. It's also harder to get them to eat dead crickets, since they don't move.

Anyhoo, go with www.grubco.com/!!! They're really good!!!! I've ordered thousands of mealies from them (literally!), and I have never had a problem with them!!

Thanks for the tip about grubco. I misspoke earlier when mentioning the can o crickets from Ghann. I believe it is called ghann in a can or something like that. It is 100 live crickets a week delivered to my house. This is the perfect number for my herps and since I (well my wife since I am in Korea at the moment) have to drive 45 minutes to get crickets otherwise the convenience is awesome. I have never used the freeze dried crickets and I don't think any of my lizard friends would eat them anyway But thank you for the tip on those too.

I was turned on to "jnb" from a fellow herper. They are a family owned feeder insect operation. When you call you will see that they really care about your experience with them. There number is 1-800-691-8911. Every order from them has arrived on time and alive. Plus they are very nice people.
